Amikacin Sulfate

It is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic with an antibacterial spectrum similar to gentamicin, effective against *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, *Escherichia coli*, Proteus and other bacteria. It is indicated for the treatment of severe infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative bacilli including *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, some other Pseudomonas species, *Escherichia coli*, Proteus, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia, Acinetobacter and staphylococci (methicillin-sensitive strains), such as bacteremia or septicemia, bacterial endocarditis, lower respiratory tract infections, bone and joint infections, biliary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, etc. As it is stable to most aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes, it is particularly suitable for the treatment of severe infections caused by Gram-negative bacilli strains resistant to kanamycin, gentamicin or tobramycin.
