Sodium Fusidate

Standards: EP / BP / IP
Certifications: CEP / COPP / WC / US-DMF
Usage: Topical antibiotic

It is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic with a steroid skeleton and a derivative of fusidic acid. Featuring strong tissue permeability, it is mainly metabolized in the liver and excreted through bile with almost no renal elimination, leading to low toxicity. It exerts bactericidal effects by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and has good antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria with an excellent resistance profile. Strains resistant to antibiotics such as penicillin and methicillin remain sensitive to this product, and there is no cross-resistance between this product and other clinically used antibacterial agents. As a non-cephalosporin antibiotic, it does not require skin allergy testing. Currently, it is widely used in clinical practice for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible bacteria, especially staphylococci, including osteomyelitis, septicemia, endocarditis, recurrent infections in cystic fibrosis, bacterial endocarditis, pneumonia, meningitis, diphtheria, tuberculosis, skin and soft tissue infections, surgical and traumatic infections, etc. Intravenous administration is indicated for severe infections, infections caused by drug-resistant strains and MRSA infections. However, due to its tendency to induce drug resistance, it is mostly used as an adjuvant medication.
