Teicoplanin

Teicoplanin

Teicoplanin is a glycopeptide antibiotic extracted from the fermentation broth of specific actinomycetes. Its antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of vancomycin, while it exhibits stronger antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA) and has a lower incidence of clinical adverse reactions. It potently inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, exerting effective antibacterial effects against a variety of Gram-positive bacteria, including staphylococci, streptococci, enterococci and most anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria. Clinically, it is an important therapeutic option for severe infections such as endocarditis, osteomyelitis, septicemia, as well as respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections.
